Frankenstorm is coming! This is the message I, along with everyone on the North-East of the United States, are being told. Its true name is Sandy, which is at this moment a hurricane. It has already impacted Cuba and the Bahamas.
Having a hurricane blow through the East is not uncommon. It has happened before but what makes this storm so unique is that it is going to collide with a winter storm heading East from the West. And cold, cold air will be coming down from Canada.
Basically there is no example of anything like this storm in history. So forecasters really don't know what to categorize it as and they don't know exactly what to tell those of us in its path what to expect.
Sandy is scheduled to slam into the East coast early Sunday and combine with the other two storms Monday and Tuesday.
Here at home we are making preparations in case the worst happens. Quite frankly its the terrible winds that have us most worried. Lots of trees in PA are still dropping their leaves and if we get too much rain, snow, and ice... even strong gusts of wind could topple the trees. Its not a good situation.
Having lived in the North-East most of my life my family and I know how to prepare for bad storms. One of the most important things to have is plenty of water available. We're filling up empty gallons and stocking up on imperishables should the power go and we can't keep what's in the refrigerator. We have a fire stove where we can heat up our home, cook food, and boil water too.
The next things on the list are emergency communication devices such as radios and walkie talkies. And we have lots and lots of batteries and flashlights.
We're also making sure our vehicles have full tanks of gas and are ready for difficult travel should we need to evacuate, although I doubt that would be necessary. But better to be prepared just in case.
We will be spending the afternoon bringing anything indoors we can't tie down outside. The less things flying around the better.
God is good no matter what. And He is in control of everything. My family and I are trusting in Him for safety and any needs we may have. Being in God's care is the best!
So my fellow bloggers and readers, if you feel God prompting you please pray for all of us on the North-East of the United States. There will be damage and some people may get hurt. Pray that God's will would be accomplished and that He would be glorified despite the circumstances.
Blessings to all of you and I will write again when we Northerners emerge from the other side.
" Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out from their distress;
He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then they were glad because they had quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.
Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love,
for His wonderful works to humankind."
~ Psalm 107:28-31

Stay safe!
Will be praying.
Just did the grocery store today and are filling remaining gas cans tomorrow. Will be prepared too but asking God for mercy...many blessings
I've experienced a few thunder storms, but never seen or experienced anything like 'Frankenstorm' before; we just don't seem to get that kind of weather in the UK. There was something in 87 which was really bad but it was down South.
Anyway, I hope and pray you and your family and friends are kept safe and sound. God be with you at this time.
Sandy is hitting us at about the same time. They said we might lose power for 5 days!!! yikes :)
Keep safe!
My prayers go with you and all who are in Sandy's path. It sounds like you are as well-prepared as you can be, and the Lord truly is in control.
Safe keepings,
Laurie
May the Lord still the storm. amen
Keep safe and warm. Will be praying.
Thank you everyone for your prayers and words of encouragement! The storm arrived on Monday but everything is fine now.
I know God protected us. We didn't even lose power. :)
