A Corny Good Time

I love corn.  I love to eat it, look at it, eat it, decorate with it, eat it, and literally get lost in a whole field of it.  And because I love corn so much I quickly accepted an invitation from friends to join them for a night of fun in a corn maze.  Now I have been to a corn maze before but never like this.  We were going at night in what is called a "flashlight maze."

Temperatures would get a bit chilly at night so we had to dress warmly and remember to bring a flashlight.  When we all arrived we split into four groups.  The idea was to not only find our way out but to also collect, as a team, all the pieces to the maze from randomly (or strategically) placed mailboxes through out the maze.

The team to leave the maze first with all members of the team and all pieces of the maze would be declared the winner.

Fun, fun, fun!

This year the maze theme was baseball.  The picture at the top of this post is the maze we spent two and a half hours getting all manner of lost in. There were people of all ages in there.  And sometimes we would have to backtrack and then we would bump into other teams.

I will say this, I was very happy I had visited the restrooms before I entered the maze.  But if someone heard the call of nature whilst still in the thick of it there were occasional porta pottys.
And it was fun to see all the flashlights blinking all over the maze.  There was even a bridge at one point that had been set up in the maze so that when you reached the very center you could stand above it all and try to figure out which way to go.  They even had a small area in there where you could buy a snack (popcorn + donuts) and drink (coffee + hot cider).

Believe it or not my team won!  We thought for sure we were going to be last.  And we learned a lot about cooperation and patience.  And it didn't hurt that many on our team liked to crack jokes and stay positive.

If you are ever in Lancaster, Pennsylvania you must visit Cherry Crest Adventure Farm.  It is home to the Amazing Maize Maze and known the world over.  http://www.cherrycrestfarm.com/

There is a lot to do there besides getting lost in a maze.  They also have the Strasburg Train where you can get a ride on a classic railroad, pet and feed farm animals, taste the yummy food of Lancaster County, get hay rides, and so much more!

But if you go, take a friend or two or ten with you. And if you have a family take them all along.  It is a place where memories are made.  Its also not a bad place to take your date if you want to see how well they can cooperate with you in those crazy mazes. ;) Did I mention that you can eat corn there?

Sounds like you had a really good time. I've never had hot cider before, always cold in a glass in a nice pub; maybe that'd be nice to try. For English people, we realise that so many early settlers to America must have been English with all the English place names everywhere on the North East coast of America. Lancaster is a city up north from me.

Anyway, love reading your posts and especially about places in America.

Sounds really fun. Living where I do I've never been in a corn maze but have read about them and would like to try one some time.

That's about six hours from us but will have to keep that in mind for next year. We will be heading to one about an hour from us. THanks for sharing! Looks like fun!

Lindy Joy: Well, who knows? Maybe one day you will! :) There was a time in my life when it just seemed like a fantasy until it became real.

Denise: I'm glad. God bless. :)

Amrita: Dear sister! Its so nice to read one of your comments again. :D Yes, it was indeed great fun.

T-Childs: Hot cider is absolutely delicious! Especially when you are outside at a bonfire or camping etc.

Thank you for the kind comments. Lancaster, and indeed all of the United States, has fascinating and heroic history.

I know for a fact that European settlers have had an incredible impact on my countries formation.

Tracy: I hope one day you get the opportunity. It is so much fun. But as I stated in my post it is so much better to share the experience with someone you know. :)

BelovedBomber: Wow! You and your family should definitely come visit one year. The maze is unique from year-to-year so its always fun! :)

Lauren Davenport: Yes, it certainly was a great experience! :)

Hi Sincerity,
You gave such a good description of your journey through the maze ( I nearly typed maize )that I felt I was there with you. Had to laugh at the 'portable potty', still you would need it with the hot cider and the coffee. Sounds like a really lovely time you all had, the type of thing that I would like.

Brenda: Yes we had a great time. And we were very tired when it was all over but it was a good kind of tired. :)
