Something to Ponder

Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is so complex and beautiful! Sometimes I just have to gawk at photos and wonder how it came to be. Have you ever wondered how life came to be?  Have you ever wondered how its possible for everything in the universe to have universes inside themselves?

For example, we know now that inside every cell are chromosomes and inside each chromosome is a coil of DNA. And we know that every DNA strand is made up of genes, the part of DNA which codes for protein.  Science is still trying to catch up with the wonder of the physical world.

We could also go bigger.  The human body can have anywhere from 50 to 75 trillion cells.  As of today there are around 7 billion people alive in the world and counting!  Consider how big our world is and then think on this: Jupiter can hold about 1321 Earths and our sun can hold around 926 Jupiters.

And since we're on the subject of stars did you know that our sun is a runt compared to the monsters shining out in the blackness of space? The VV Cephei, is considered the biggest known star in the universe and is so huge that its nearly 20 billion times larger than the sun!  Its radius, if it replaced our sun, would pass Saturn. Its HUGE!

Even with all our scientific advancements we still don't fully understand our universe.  But we don't have to wonder how life came to be. We already have the answers.

" (16) For in Him all things in Heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers--all things have been created through Him and for Him. (17) He himself is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."

Colossians 1: 16 +17

It is Jesus Christ, the son of God, who controls all life.  He created the universe and all its wonder.  It is verse 17 that fascinates me the most.  How is it possible for everything to be in him? The Bible speaks about His presence in all things. Could it be that we exist like characters in a writer's mind? Are we, and everything we know, in God's imagination? Of course I'm not trying to say that God needs a mind or needs to imagine anything for it to exist. But it is certainly a curiosity to me. I love trying to understand how God can know everything that happens and be everywhere at once.

But there are many mysteries we will never understand, no matter how hard we try.  I think, perhaps, that learning about all the mysteries of life and God will be what we do in eternity. And that thought fills me with excitement because I love to learn! :)

When I studied biochemistry, I was amazed at the complexity of the chemical reactions that keep us alive. Even for the simplest reaction, there needed to be numerous enzymes which are proteins of a specific amino acid sequence to carry out a specific chemical reaction. Not only does the enzymes have to be present but it has to be in the right location and orientation within the cell. Add to that the hormonal systems that monitor and regulate the reactions and you have one amazingly complex system. All by chance? Surely, God.
